Duratran
Duratrans are most commonly used for background elements behind talent and are usually printed using full-color large format printers.
The word duratran is short for "durable transparency," a name that eludes to the fact that duratrans are back lit and the material they are printed on allows part of the light to show through, giving the backgrounds a vibrant look.
Duratrans can feature a wide variety of images, including cityscapes and branded collages as well as faux control rooms, newsrooms or other environments such as outdoor scenes.
Some sets include changable duratrans that are installed using rigging systems. These allow one background to be raised above the set (or less commonly below the set) to be replaced with another background graphic. While these systems are most often changed manually by a crew member, they can also be motorized to allow for quicker changes that don't require human intervention.
