A newsplex is a term used to describe a large newsroom that also serves as the station's news set.
A newsplex generally has the traditional assignment desk and work areas for producers, reporters and anchors, but is usually extensively decorated to match the station's on-air look.
A common feature of a newsplex is the use of many monitors. These monitors may be a combination of decorative and functional; they may be used by staffers to monitor other stations while also providing background elements.
Some newsplexes may also have a second story with balcony overlooking the main area. This balcony can be either functional or faux.
The anchor area is often a traditional anchor desk situated in front of the newsplex. In addition, the anchors may walk around to various locations within the newsplex to report stories.
