A standup area is a portion of a set used mainly for presenting franchise reports such as consumer news, investigative stories and health news. It can also be used as an alternate location for a reporter to introduce a story live.
Standup areas are so named because talent typically presents stories from a standing position when using this area, though seated positions are also possible.
Standup areas are often equipped with a flat panel monitor such as an LCD screen or plasma screen or rear projection screen, allowing the station to insert topical graphics behind the talent.
